Post Sandy...

Hi everyone! Sorry I was out today, we needed to settle some things and take care of family and friends that have been hit by the hurricane. The Benson's are good, had no power but it is back, it was really cold, and thank goodness we are warm again. The City of Ocean City is devastated, there was so much traffic and madness with electric trucks, helicopters, and home owners trying to get into it. There were policemen checking IDs at every bridge to make sure you lived there to get in.
It's very sad, but most everyone left and only lost possessions.
So that being said-
THE HALLOWEEN FROLIC is tomorrow night from 6:30-8:00pm hope to see you there!

Oh Sandy...

Well, school is officially closed Monday and Tuesday. Halloween Frolic is post-poned until Thursday as of right now. PLEASE stay safe :) we are riding out the storm in our home, didn't evacuate. Send emails if you can to let me know you are all ok, as well as those fantastic kids of yours. Be safe!!!

Creepy Characters in Mrs. Benson's Bunch!

We had a blast today! The kiddos revisited Character Traits, learned about expository writing, sculpted pumpkin faces, and scooped pumpkin guts! Soooo FUN! Learning can be fun, I prove it to myself everyday ;) check out this awesome picture. More to come!!!

We had a great day today, Mrs. Abdill came in and visited with the class and participated in our Daily5 Centers. She read a book with the whole class, then read to small groups in Centers, and the best thing-SHE MADE US ALL ROOT BEER FLOATS!
How awesome is that?! Take a look...

Math Practice Makes Perfect:)

So, as I tried to teach today's lesson, I realized our kiddos are lacking basic math addition and subtraction facts. Mental Math is not our thing :( so if you can practice with your kiddos adding digits 0-9, and try a missing digit;
__+10=17, 20+4=__, 7+__=20

Wow, what an awesome day in Cape May!!!

Cape May was a huge success!!! We had so much fun, saw soooo many butterflies, birds, a bald eagle, and played on the beach. I took tons of pics and videos.

We also got to see a monarch tagging!!! So Cool!!!

Cape May is HERE!!!

Tomorrow (Oct. 10th) is the day of our very first field trip.  We are so excited to get things going.

Today we learned about Cape May "Diamonds", native shells, migrating birds to look for (peregrine falcon!!!), and we may get to see a Monarch Tagging tomorrow! 

I appreciate all the help and information gathered to make this trip possible.  Mrs. Klaudi, Mrs.DiGiorgio, and the internet are making it easy for

Migrating Monarchs

On our way to CAPE MAY!!!

We will be looking for Migrating Monarchs :) Today we learned the stages of a Monarch and how it begins its long journey to Mexico for a winter retreat.  We made life cycle wheels, read a fantastic book and watched some awesome videos of the migration;

Hopefully we will catch some of this awesomeness!!! We watched a video from 2 days ago and there were hundreds flying around the paths we are going to be hiking on :)

Chatty, Chatty, Cathies and Charlies

Ok, we are a talkative bunch!
But boy do we love to learn. I wanted to tell you all this week has been full of transitions and changes in time schedules and BSI/Resource room schedules. All things considering we had a good time, but we need to keep our voices down and remember our manners, especially when the phone rings or we have a visitor.
Anyway, I figured out a way to link homework directly to our PAGE!!!

We had a fantastic day on Friday! It was a science center kind of day, we learned about photosynthesis, and the secret lives of leaves, took a math test that will be curved  :) , and learned that we are going to CAPE MAY for a visit to the beach! (Science related of course)
