9/24 FIRST ELA test= COMPLETE

Well, our first test is complete. After 1hr and 15 minutes I stopped them and collected their tests, it was a LONG one.  It will get easier for them once they are used to it, but the first one was long and tough.  Writing is going to be the toughest this year I think.  I may send home some writing prompts for you to give them and have them timed in the future.
We are well into our math lessons and have homework tonight-
                                         Topic 4-2 reteaching & teaching
(click on reteaching and teaching to get sheet)
NO ELA HOMEWORK tonight
IF your kiddo reads for 15 minutes write it in their agenda and I will give them a Sticker towards a coupon.
Also here is a Math Game I hope they can play;

Jeremy Dragonfly and Schlomo the Dog
(read this and tell me about it to get ANOTHER STICKER!!!)
Have a GREAT NIGHT!

Great times, Great kiddos!

Hey Everyone!
We had a great week! Back to school night was a great success and our kiddos had fun preparing for it.  I have been a little backed up with all the new things going on at Bacon School so I will keep on the blog next week with all kinds of new stuff.  I hope you liked the video I posted, it was pictures from the first few days of school.  I love doing that kind of stuff with the kids, especially so you can see them in action.
Next week we will have our first reading test!
The test is compiled of our spelling phonics words (recognizing the patterns VC/CV pattern, not spelling them correctly), reading a short passage, answering comprehension questions about the passage, writing a short constructed response to a writing prompt, and vocabulary words from our story, Charlie McButton- bat, fuel, term, battery, blew, plug, vision

Here's the story for you to read together!
                  Charlie McButton Lost Power E-Text

The first test will be a little time consuming but they are a great way to prepare our students for the NJASK3 coming in May 2014.
Here is a link to the homework and skills we worked on last week, if you want study help-(click on the picture)
Here is the story on YOUTUBE-

In Math we will be working on our Multiplication Facts, please practice them with your kiddos. There are a ton of free sites with practice games.  So far we know- 3x4, 6x7, 3x8, 3x7, 3x3, 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, 11, 12, and 9 times tables.  We are learning tricks for the tough ones!

Here's a FUN one- (click on the picture)

Homework will be a mix of math and reading activities-Remember NO SPELLING TESTS!
ALSO- If you kiddo is struggling with homework, write me a note in their agenda and let me know.  I don't want homework TEARS!!! We have so many other things to worry about in life, homework is important, but I don't want fights or crying over it.  20-25 minutes at max!!!

OCTOBER 4TH IS OUR FIRST FIELD TRIP!!!!
Please look for a permission slip and bring it in ASAP!!! I'll post more later on in the week :)

Hope you have a great weekend! I'll be traveling to soccer games, celebrating my Dad's 66th birthday, and then hopefully sitting on the beach Sunday!!!
As always, thanks for being a huge part of Mrs.Benson's Bunch and supporting me and your kiddos in all we do!

WE SURVIVED!!!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  As I sit here writing I am getting ready to go to the beach.  My weekend was filled with playtime and soccer, but now I'm planning our week.
The first week was a little boring getting used to the new reading series, I think we are going to get the hang of it fast, then we will get to the more involved writing, reading, and the kids love their, CENTER TIME!
Although they love Centers, in third grade there isn't much "fun" in them.  We may have one learning activity(game) but most involve practice work.  The work is due on Fridays, I will also go over all of this at Back to School Night on Tuesday.
FIRST QUIZ on MULTIPLICATION TUESDAY- 1,2,5,10,11,12,&9 times tables!!!!!!
We are also starting in our Envision Math series this week.  Topic 4 is the beginning for us, please look for homework involving writing multiplication word problems and solving already written ones.
I hope to see you on TUESDAY NIGHT, for BTS NIGHT.  I have a fun activity planned and you are in for a surprise from your kiddos.
Remember to return all forms given out and bring my Family and behavior forms in.
Here is a fun game for your kids to play at home to practice multiplication :)

Have your kids tell me they played at home and I'll give them a Benson Coupon! ;)
Remember to study with your kids for the Quiz on Tuesday :)

And so it starts with Multiplication :)

Well, we started our new reading series and so far it's a slow go. BUT we will get the ebb and flow of it soon.
I'm also excited to say we started multiplication today!  They have a homer-homework page of 0's, 1,2,& 5 times tables. They did great and we are on our way! I'll be starting the text book soon and regular homework will start as soon as we do.
It was a great day overall :)
Please sign your child's agenda Monday- Thursday nights and hand in all forms .

Thanks to everyone who has bought us items from our "wish" list, I love the awesome support! You have no idea how much it helps.
Have a great night!!!

Opening WEEK :)

Hi Parents!!
Again, welcome to the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year! I am excited to say we are rolling out opening week a little differently this year because we have a new reading series, are following a Model Curriculum, changing up our Pearson Math lessons, and trying new and exciting workbooks to improve our lessons matching with our Model Curriculum and the Common Core Standards.
I will be sending home more info on that as the week goes on.  Like you, I am a parent to three little ones, my oldest is 8 and in third grade so we have a lot in common, and I know sometimes the going gets CRAZY BUSY!!!
The paperwork I will be sending home for you to fill out, UGH-I know, is for me, you, and this blog.  If we all keep up with it we will all be super successful.  I am also sending home a supply list.  Please try to have the items ASAP. A flash drive will be used in 4th and 5th too and will travel up with them.  If you go around to different places you can find great deals. (I went to Staples, Target, and ShopRite for all of my daughters and ones for our class)
Please notice the homework your child is working on, Math and Reading.  ESP Math! We are starting with Multiplication this year. I am asking you to buy or print out from the internet Mulitplication Flash Cards to practice at home.  This needs to be a secure skill by the middle of OCTOBER!!!!
So in Advance, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING SUPPORTIVE AND PARTICIPATING IN YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATION!!!
If you have a gmail account or any email please subscribe to MrsBensonsBunchofKiddos!
Let me know if you want to come in and read, help with centers, multiplication practice, or help me grade papers (lol)
Thanks again,
Becky Benson
